Why do so many people have so many problems with options??? Hell, if you want aisian features, use them. we are not asking them to take away anything. I'm sure that we awould also all embrace more asian faces if that's a possible option...same with hairstyles.

So just because our character is in Cantha, it has to be Asian? Now Guild Wars is racist?

It's not like people born in america could appear asian, or that people born in europe could appear african.
This is pretty bad in my oppinion that the faces/hair styles are restricted between chapters. It's like they don't want characters to look unique. Besides, with the lack of asian faces, some people might think ANet is trying to send out a certain stereotype >_>

I think they ARE indeed trying to create distinctions between Prophecies and Tyrian chars.

Ive played enough to be able to tell a Canthan player from the Tyrian char, thanks to their face/hair. Even if they are wearing armor from one side or another (My Canthan monk wears Tyrian collector armor).

I think this distinction SHOULD exist when it comes to faces because it adds some roleplay value to the game.

I think haircuts should be allowed for either side though. Perhaps a Canthan char can get a Tyrian haircut after "crossing the sea".

As for PVP, they should have complete access to all faces/hair sets.

Actually, if you were able to just use any haircut, then you'd be capable of making any combination of face/hair.

I'm for choosing any Proph's face with any Proph's hair. Any Fact's face with any Fact's hair.

Still, my Proph's characters are largely better looking than my Fact's. Except for armor. I do like the various Factions armors.

That's definately a non-sequitor. Wow...

Ok, don't think it's modern day. Stop thinking that its easy as hell for a person to move across the world when gunpowder is a relatively new invention.

Also, don't think that any of these continents are early-America and they're readily taking in any and all people that come their way. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't a majority of Asian cities very secluded during the early stages of humans moving across the globe in any frequency?

As I said prior, there's not enough precidence to facilitate people being born AND trained as Heros en mas in Cantha who aren't culturally native.

If you want your character to go over to Cantha, but be Tyrian born (or culturally native to Tyria)? Grab a boat in Lion's Arch.

--

Or, for those that want to be trained there. Get run from Post-Searing to Lion's Arch, then to Cantha, then to Shing Jing Island.

Want some flavor text for it?

After the ravages of the Searing, Damien and his parents fled the dying city for new hope. Hoping to take refuge in Kryta with the rest of the refugees, they soon found out it was impossible. The wars with the Tengu and Undead spilled over and threatened the unprotected villagers in a foreign land.

With the last of their savings, and conscripting themselves into servitude to afford the boat ride half way across the world, Damien's parents secured passage on a merchant vessel departing the port city of Lion's Arch for the mysterious land of Cantha.

There, I just added a bit of storyline as to why your low-level character was run a completely different continent.

As I have yet to try this, if your character can't get training on Shing Jing island, well, you ARE an outsider... But there's your excuse to cross the world.

It doesnt add any rp value, you can rp anything you want, I can just say I was a tyrian trader that became interested in the art of the Mesmer in Cantha and gave up my old life to begin anew.

And if its going/not going to apply to pve then it should apply to pvp as well, no favoritism.

A. It's a fictional world created by ANet that has Magic, which does not exist. There is no point in comparing it with the real world.

B. According to the book, Ascalon did trade with Cantha in the past, so ruling out sea travel and immigration is silly. Unless ANet says there is not sea travel and immigration, it is possible

C. Mhenlo's parents were from Ascalon, and he got his training in Cantha under Togo. Unless ANet says he is the only person to ever do so, it is possible.

D. This is about facial design, not about geography. If ANet made a GW game which did not have a minority face, there would be racist accusations. If some want European descent faces, they should have them. Options are good in games, the more the better. There area couple of faces which do not look European, one for the male Assassin, one for female and male Mesmer, one for male and female rit, and another for the male Ranger. The E has no European face in Factions, I am not sure about the others. From what some have told me, more face options were added to GW in the past, no harm in doing it now.

I would like to start a factions character some day, it's just all the faces suck and there's such a small amount of choices. I know for PVP I never pick Canthan because I HAETATGLAHGlisagoiahgasfghagjhakhjajkshakghasjd asfhsad jkshauk Factions PVE and everything about it UGH. SO UGLY THE CITY IS KILL ME OH GOD KILL ME.

So in otherwords, I will never make an ugly Canthan unless I get one of the many different prophecies faces. Seriously look through the necromancer canthan vs the necromancer tyrian and it's no competition, it's really very quite pathetic.

/signed with all my heart and soul that you son of a butts at ANET would do this type of crap with us, stop pissing us off and just make this game user f-ing friendly for once and stop your crap of leading this game out of the premise that you can be good right out the box without doing any PVE.

Sure there is, plenty of reasons. Every world has rules. There are basic necessities that any world, any universe, must have for it to develop and support life. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that things remain similar except where they are noted to diverge.

Here is another reason to do such things. Fantasy worlds are created by reason-orientated human beings. When someone attempts to create a reality, unless they cover EVERY (and I mean every) detail, their knowledge tends to fill in the blanks with real-world physics (or biology, psychology, etc.)

I don't think I've played in a fantasy game in which boats didn't float in water, but there was no "rule" that said "In the fantasy land of <> boats float." Or light reflects off of objects, or density of molecules is what causes things to float, sink, rest, etc. Or that there is a rotation of objects, etc.

See where I'm going?

Note, I included this in my posts as a viable option. I said that there wasn't a significant percent doing it.

Note my flavor text in my last post (that would be the italicised text) as this was the EXACT example I gave (except substituting Damien for Mhenlo.)

Exactly what I said in my first post.

Reading Comprehension. I appreciate the fact that we both came to the same conclusions though, it is reassuring.

What you said in this sentence implies the same thing of yourself, no? If your not, then you would not mind whether the Factions characters look asian or not.

As for the reason of "ugly/suck" faces, this is not a modelling/fashion show game. Be glad your characters do not sustain scars from battles .

As for the purpose of roleplaying, I agree this is not a bad reason but then again the level of roleplay in GW is appalling, all I see in towns are WTBs/WTSs, not to mention profanities and noob callings.

It's been an extremely long time since Ive seen a true rper around, I used to see em in the Uo freeservers... but yeah, everyone has different opinions, likes and dislikes for their character. Heh, I am glad my characters dont get scars... Fable anyone? It seems like we have attracted vulgar, rude people as the majority of the playerbase....

If this is an issue of too many ugly faces to choose from, than maybe ANet should just replace those faces with better ones. Honestly, there's some pretty hideous faces that I wish weren't there, but that's just me. But that hasn't stopped me from being able to make each class's appearance to my liking.
